FAQ: FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
ON THE GAME
Can I play characters that are not listed? Yes and no. You may play any canon character who is not listed here dead or alive. Listing every single character ever mentioned would be near impossible. If they are in the books or have been mentioned by JK Rowling in an interview they are open for play. Original characters are not welcome at this time. This also includes original children of other canon characters. However if a new interview or information pretaining to other canon character's children they will be added to the roster and be put up for grabs.
Can I do something that contradicts canon? Canon is still canon but of course your characters are allowed to try and change their future. For example, Percy might have married Audrey but maybe it's because Penelope Clearwater died (which we’re not saying she did at this point.) If Penelope came back from the dead and he was still in love with her that might cause some trouble. So essentially you're free to develope your characters without our premise but the future canon is how it has been stated to be and the past is how it was stated to be. You are free to do whatever you like in the in between.
Do you guys ban PBs? No. We do ask that you use some common sense though. That isn't hard to do. Choose PBs that fit the canon descriptions of your characters. The Patils are Indian. Marietta has curly red-blonde hair. Ultimately, the mod has the yay or nay on your PB choices. If you need help finding a PB, feel free to ask.
Where did you come up with an idea like this? Remember that Weasley/Lovegood family tree JK Rowling released that had everyone in an uproar? That was it. I wanted those future kids to play with my muses who would be like "I married who and did what? No way." and thus ensuing chaos. Apply some well known Harry Potter RPG fandom ideas and you have tesseract
How does time work in this game? To make it easy we play in real time, but real time in 2000. So that means if today in real time is Friday, January 24th, 2008 it would translate to Tuesday, January 24th, 2000. You can figure out what the day is by scrolling back to the year 2000 on your computer's calender or clock.
ON THE PLOT
What is the Tesseract Watch? The Tesseract Watch is the Fourth Hollow. It belonged to a fourth Peverell brother. Beedle the Bard left out this part of the story because of his own desire to posess this watch. In fact, he tried for years to uncover the missing family tree of the fourth Peverell brother. In this story, the fourth brother disappeared and the watch along with him. The Tesseract watch is the watch mentioned in Deathly Hallows given to Ron Weasley on his 17th Birthday. The fourth Peverell brother is a distant relative of the Weasley family many, many generations back.
While the watch at best appears to be an average watch with numbers instead of stars, it is not an average watch. It has the power to conquer time, to travel between times and dimensions, to stop time and/or to speed it up. Those are just a handful of the things it can do.
What happened when it hit the rock? A Tesseract was formed. Now the children who fall into this Tesseract must learn to live in a time that is not their own among those whom they do not know, but probably should know. The tesseract also acted as a stimulant for the dead to begin coming back to life, though those with unfinished business are the only ones who return. With a leak in the time-space continium there is no way to stop them from coming back, though Hugo and others are trying depserately to repair the Tesseract Watch and return to their own time. What they don't know is that everytime they mess with the Watch it enlarges the Tesseract and there are worse wizards out there than Voldemort.
Does this mean Voldemort and the Death Eaters are back and alive? Yes, Voldemort can come back to life as good as anyone else.
What will the Living Dead be like? And where does my Living Dead character show up in game? They won't be like zombie people or anything like that; they're the Living Dead. They'll be precisely as they were before they died down to looking the age of it and everything. If people go and look in their graves, they will find nothing. They won't even remember being dead or how they died which should complicate things. They will simply wake up from wherever they died. For example, Fred would just appear in the hallway at Hogwarts. He'd wake up and wonder what just happened and think a war in still going on. Sirius would walk back through the veil. Lily and James would be in the ruins of their home in Godric's Hollow and wonder where their infant son is.
How does the Tesseract work? And how do my characters end up in the past or alive? The Tesseract is a phenomena that was opened up by Hugo Weasley when he was playing with his Tesseract Watch unknowingly. The Tesseract sent Hugo Weasley back in time to the year 2000, but upon arrival the Tesseract did not close. It remains open, folding in upon itself in space and time.
The Tesseract moves around the entire Wizarding world. As characters are picked up they are introduced into the game as being in the right place at the right time. For example little Rose Weasley is on her way to the owlery to deliver an owl when the Tesseract makes another shift and hits her. Rose is then sent back in time and space and shows up in a different location at Hogwarts, but in the year 2000.
When the Tesseract Watch was activated it was turned to a setting named "avoid death". As the Tesseract moves around the Wizarding world it may come upon a grave or pair of graves and activate. This sends the bodies not only back in time, but revives them as well thus avoiding death.
If they were at Hogwarts when they got pulled back in time, when they arrive in 2000, do they arrive within the Hogwarts area? Yes and no. Because the Tesseract not only deals with time, but space as well they can arrive pretty much anywhere. It can be as little as in a different room inside Hogwarts, or another country entirely! It's up to you.
Can the Living Dead die again? Yes. If you pick up a character who was incredibly old when they died of old age they would still be subject to that old age and therefore likely die very soon after returning. The Living Dead concept is meant mostly for characters who died before their time.
So does this mean people will start fighting again? Sure, but they would quickly realize that there is no war going on around them because the streets are relatively calm in 2000. Minerva McGonagall and Kingsley Shacklebolt will eventually be on the lookout for these Living Dead and offer them aide in their new life.
The character I want to app for was sent to prison at the end of DH. Can I still pick them up and play with them, or will they just be stuck in Azkaban the whole time? You may certainly play with your favorite evil character! One of the first places the Tesseract targeted was Azkaban Prison. Due to the charms placed upon the Prison and the power of the Tesseract the entire Prison disappeared and the prisoners started popping up one by one all over the place sometimes missing entire days. The last thing they remember is sitting in their cell and then *pop!* they are sitting in the middle of the Czech Republic with a crown on their head and they're missing chunks of time.
Why are Frank and Alice Longbottom listed as the Living Dead? Good question! We felt that playing Frank and Alice as crazy people stuck in St. Mungo's probably wouldn't be that much fun, so we killed them off. When they died will be up to the applicants, but it must stick to canon. Remember they were alive by the end of the Final Battle. The same rule applies to Gilderoy Lockheart.
Can the living dead reproduce? No, unfortunately one of the side effects of being dead means that they may not reproduce. This means any couples with a Living Undead will need to adopt.
Are there any other limitations to being dead? Yes! I'm glad you asked. The Ministry is in the process of making new laws regarding the Returnees (future characters) and the Living Dead. As the laws are passed you will be able to find them in the mod journal. Besides the laws that are in place, the Living Dead may contract "The Last Breath" which is a disease that effects your respiratory system; it is very much like acute bronchitis but has no cure as of now. The ministry is working on one and it should be available soon.
Do the Living Dead age like normal people? No, they do not. Appearance-wise they will not age and will look the age they died forever, however physically they age just like normal people and will die of old age if something else doesn't get to them first.
Where do our characters get the journals? The journals were created by a contracted business called Hopkirk and Son Publishers by Kingsley Shacklebolt. It was one of the first things he did with his power in an attempt to promote unity and provide an alternate to sending owls and communicating with each other. Characters can pick up a journal at any Wizarding retailer as they are Ministry required and endorsed.
How do the journals work? Everyone is assigned a name to use with the journals, much like our usernames at IJ except this uses your character's full name. This was a part of Kingsley's Unity campaign in '99. No one should be able to use anyone else's name, but it has been known to happen and laws have been put in place regarding the sensation.
Since the journals have been around since 1999, are the future kids used to them already? Have they had them since they were kids? Yes! The kids from the future should be very familiar with the journals. However since the kids were sent back with just the things they have on their back when the Tesseract hits them some of them may need to purchase a new one in the year 2000.
Where does my Living Dead or Future characters live? The Ministry has set up a foundation and department within the Ministry of Magic to assist these people. Every Living Dead and Future character must register to have their residency reinstated and then the foundation helps them find a place to live or reunites them with their family. Remember that if your character is a Living Dead their bank accounts were probably frozen or passed on to a living relative so they will need to get into contact with that family member or the Ministry for money. The future characters will not have a bank account since they don't technically exist yet and will only have the money that they had in their wallet when the Tesseract hit them.
Is Minerva McGonagall the Headmistress in 2023? What about the Minister of Magic? Minerva McGonagall is still the Headmistress of Hogwart's in 2023, yes. That makes her 98 years old, but Dumbledore was about 116 when he died so it's plausible. Kingsley Shacklebolt, however, is not the Minister of Magic in 2023.
Where can I have my Future or Living Dead character register? You may do that here. If your character decides to register, please put the card provided in your character's journal userinfo.
ON THE FARM
On the farm? Huh? Yeah, you know..on the farm. Ha. Ha? No? Anyone? Bueller? Okay. Not funny then, right.
What does 'noteworthy' mean on the application? I don't know what to put there. Anything that you feel is worth noting about your character. This is where you would tell me that your character is an animagus, for example.
I have a Daily Prophet article I need to release or an annoynomous post I need to make. How do I do that? You may do that with our handy dandy NPC journal chesire (yes, the cat). Information on how to access it and use it can be found here, but it's only for members of the game and is friend locked!
This is a work in progress. If you have additional questions that are not answered here, feel free to ask away. All comments to this post are screened. This will be updated frequently to help players new and old understand the plot as it develops.
